Enjoy good food in summery Athenian gardens - PART I

The local lifestyle magazine Athens Voice published a must-do list with the ‘in-fashion’ places to eat in Athens, while in the surroundings of jasmine, berry trees, and much more.

All you need is some good company and you can head out to one of these places to enjoy good food, Greek or international cuisine, and feel that you are in the outskirts, or in a valley, somewhere distant form the ‘buzz’ of everyday city life and fast-paced rhythm.

The suggestions are not only for locals but anyone who would like to find a little piece of paradise in the city of Athens, whether right in the center or the suburbs.  Below, you will find the first part of this issue.

‘To Vrasto’

The name of this place literally translates into ‘The Warm one’, suggesting the ambience you will encounter from the start. This is a family restaurant in Chalandri, well-known locally since the 70s, where most customers would visit for a specific ‘warm’ dish. Now it serves, traditional youvetsi, Metsovone chicken, cheese pies made with hand-made pastry every day, or for the meat lovers veal-head and ‘patsas’, a traditional meat dish you don’t find easily in Athens. You might be even treated with a dessert to finish off!
Where?: 3 Rodon, Chalandri, 210 6813776

48 Urban Garden

Here you can find street food slowly cooked in tinbowls, with a gourmet spirit, ranging from Moroccan hamburgers with harissa sauce to hot dog and crabs. The food is served in an exotic atmosphere, in a purely ‘in’ place which has become a favourite for many. You are in Ambelokipi and nothing happens exotic and after someone brings you here.

Skantza

Skantza is located within a relaxing green garden, having the church of Ayios Demetrios in the background, with a picturesque feeling hanging in the air. Traditional Greek dishes are served, including fish and meat delicacies on tablecloths decorated with playful little strawberries!

L' Abreuvoir

A fresh garden that hosts berry trees will inspire romance and peacefulness in you during the daytime and remind you of cosmopolitan places during the night. Service is excellent and it is known for its finesse, maybe that’s why it’s been baptized with a French name.
Where?: 51, Xenokratous, 21 0722 9106

Part II will follow up soon with more recommendations for breezy summery nights with excellent food!
