Save Money and Save The Planet

There has never been a better time to save money and the planet as well! Today is all about saving money and helping to save the planet by going eco-friendly. Did you know that you can easily combine both if you know how? Not only will you be able to save huge amounts of money each year, but you will also be able to do your bit for saving the planet.

Just imagine, if everybody took the time to make basic changes in their daily lives, we could all help to save our planet and we would all have more money in our pockets too! It is important to raise awareness on issues such as global warming and the current state of the earth and here at Quest Greek Islands, we would also like to help out too.

Saving money and being economical is not as difficult or time consuming as you may think. What many people are unaware of is that many effortless changes can be made within your home that will help contribute to saving your money and the world. There are so many ways that you can help save on energy, so it is possible for everyone to help and get involved.

Preventing is Better Than a Cure
When it comes to getting your household appliances, car or any other vehicle serviced, how many people actually get it done? Well not everyone realises the importance of getting their vehicles, central heating system or air conditioning units looked at, which means that they are not always operating properly. When any machine, vehicle or system isn't running normally, it uses more power and energy therefore costing you more money to run. The saying "preventing is better than a cure" really works well here, because it is much better to prevent a problem rather than having to wait until you need to pay out for a cure to a bigger problem. To prevent problems occurring and causing you to waste unnecessary energy, make sure that you keep your car tires' pumped up, get your car serviced regularly and checking your heating/ air conditioning systems on a regular basis can save time and money in the future.

Easy Ways to Save
Switching off your TV, Hi-fi and computer when you don't need them is better than leaving them in standby mode. Standby still means that your appliances are still using unneeded energy and it is wasteful, especially during the hours when you are out of the house or asleep.

When most people brush their teeth, they usually leave the tap running the whole time. Now, the average time for brushing your teeth is supposed to be 3-4 minutes, so calculate how much water you are wasting when you leave the top running for 3-4 minutes. Just by switching off the tap when you don't need it will save a lot of water and will save you about 20 Euros per year.

Turn down the heating or air conditioning just by 1-2 degrees and watch your electric bill decrease too. Of course, you shouldn't make yourself uncomfortable through being too hot or too cold, but you will hardly notice a difference of 1-2 degrees.

Instead of washing your clothes on a 40'c wash, turn them down to a 30'c wash instead.

When making a cup of tea or coffee, make sure that you only boil the amount of water that is needed. Kettles use a lot of energy, so boiling large amounts of water means that is not needed is a waste of electric.

In many supermarkets now, you are often charged for a carrier bag. Although they are not awfully expensive, when you have to buy a few of them they do add money on to your shopping bill. Taking your own carrier bags with you to a shop helps recycle them and will save you money on buying new ones each time you go shopping.

Heated hair appliances are usually high voltage and use a lot of energy, especially when they are left on for longer periods. If you have the amount of times that you use them for example straighten or blow-dry your hair 3 times a week instead of every day, will knock of a chunk from your monthly electric bill.

Fix appliances before you need to replace them. If you are having trouble with your washing machine, you are probably aware that it will cost money to replace. It is understandable that you may want to avoid buying a new one, but you should instead make sure that you have cured the problem at least for now. Don't let a problem get too bad that you need to spend a lot on replacing a part of replacing the appliance all together.

If you are finding that you have a toilet that is using more water to flush than usual or a tap that tends to leak, fix it now! Not only will the problem get worse through time, but you will also be using a lot more water than you really need.

When you need to wash the dishes or your clothing, make sure that you have a full load before turning on the dishwasher or washing mashine. It isn't always possible to do so, but if you were to use either of the appliances less often, the planet and your purse would definitely benefit!
